Apple to launch MacBook with 5G cellular data connectivity in 2020, according to report

Apple will allegedly launch its first cellular MacBook next year, with a new 5G-enabled model launching in the second half of 2020 according to Digitimes.

The report claims Apple will introduce a ceramic antenna component to allow the machine enhanced 5G performance.

Digitimes is the first source to claim Apple will debut a 5G-enabled MacBook next year, so it is worth treating this report with a little caution, although Apple has recently announced plans to acquire Intel’s 5G smartphone modem business which will give Apple Intel’s intellectual property, 4G and 5G patent portfolio, equipment and staff, and a recent report claims Apple will add 5G cellular data connectivity to all iPhone models in 2020, including its lower-cost iPhone XR predecessor after originally only planning to release 5G as a feature for its high-end models, indicating the company is working towards a speedy 5G rollout.

According to Digitimes, by using a ceramic material for the 5G antenna board, Apple will see dramatically improve cellular reception and transmission speed, possibly by as much as twice as fast. – The report claims the ceramic parts costs six times as much as the standard components.

Rumors suggest Apple will unveil a MacBook model in the near future with a retail price of over $3,000.
