Apple unveils new MacBook Pro with M5 Pro and M5 Max chips

Apple has introduced updated 14-inch and 16-inch versions of the MacBook Pro, powered by its new M5 Pro and M5 Max chips.
The new models focus heavily on performance gains, particularly for AI workloads, graphics and professional applications. Apple says the M5 Pro and M5 Max bring a redesigned CPU and next-generation GPU architecture, along with higher unified memory bandwidth, enabling significantly faster on-device AI processing compared with previous generations.
Both chips are designed to handle demanding tasks such as large language model (LLM) processing, 3D rendering, video editing and complex simulations. Apple says AI-related tasks, including image generation and prompt processing, are multiple times faster than on earlier Apple silicon models.
The M5 Pro supports up to 64GB of unified memory, while the M5 Max can be configured with up to 128GB. Memory bandwidth has also increased substantially, allowing professionals to work with large datasets and high-resolution video projects more efficiently.
Storage performance has been upgraded as well. Apple says the new MacBook Pro offers up to twice the SSD read and write speeds of the previous generation, with speeds reaching up to 14.5GB per second. Starting storage has also increased, with M5 Pro models beginning at 1TB and M5 Max models starting at 2TB.
Battery life remains a headline feature, with Apple claiming up to 24 hours of usage depending on workload. Fast charging is supported via USB-C and MagSafe 3.
Connectivity has been updated with Apple’s N1 wireless chip, bringing support for Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. The laptops also include Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI with support for high-resolution displays, an SDXC card slot and support for multiple external monitors — up to two with M5 Pro and up to four with M5 Max.
The Liquid Retina XDR display remains, offering up to 1600 nits of peak HDR brightness, with an optional nano-texture finish. The devices also feature a 12MP Center Stage camera, studio-quality microphones and a six-speaker sound system with Spatial Audio support.
The new MacBook Pro ships with macOS Tahoe, which introduces Apple’s updated Liquid Glass design and expanded Apple Intelligence capabilities.
The updated models are available in space black and silver. Pre-orders open on March 4, with availability beginning March 11. Pricing starts at $2,199 for the 14-inch M5 Pro model, with higher configurations available for users who need additional performance and memory.
