iPad mini supplies running low at Apple Store locations, hinting at upcoming refresh
Signs are pointing to a possible refresh of the iPad mini in the near future, as supplies of the current sixth-generation model are running low at many Apple retail locations. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, this shortage could be a strong indicator that Apple is preparing to launch a new version soon.
The sixth-generation iPad mini has been on the market since September 2021, so a new model would be arriving right on schedule. Speculation suggests that the upcoming seventh-generation iPad mini might come with significant upgrades, including a new A17 Pro chip or better, which would enhance its performance and support for advanced features like Apple Intelligence. Other potential improvements could include updated cameras and the addition of Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3, in line with recent updates across Apple’s product range.
Apple has already announced a major event set for September 9, where the iPhone 16 lineup, new Apple Watches, and updated AirPods are expected to be revealed. However, it’s unclear if the new iPad mini will be unveiled during this event or if it might be held back for a separate announcement later in the fall. This strategy would make sense, especially with rumors of upcoming Mac updates, including new MacBook Pro, Mac mini, and iMac models powered by M4 chips.
Earlier this year, Apple updated its iPad Pro models with M4 chips and introduced new iPad Air models featuring the M2 chip.
