Apple reportedly requested to stop M2 chip production in January ‘as demand for MacBooks dwindled’

Apple reportedly asked suppliers to stop production of its latest M2 chip series in January due to weak demand for MacBooks according to a new report from The Elec, which claims that Taiwan’s TSMC did not output any M2 chip wafer workpieces to its outsourced semiconductor package facility in January and February this year.
The M2 chip series, comprising of the M2, M2 Pro and M2 Max chips for the MacBook Air, iPad Pro, MacBook Pro and Mac mini were first announced in June, 2022 with the introduction of the M2, before expanding with the M2 Pro and M2 Max variants in January, 2023.
The report claims that now some production has resumed since March, but it has been found to be only half the level of previous years.
