Redesigned iPad mini launching later this year, says Gurman

Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman has claimed that Apple’s rumored new redesigned iPad mini is expected to launch later this year, marking what is said to be “the biggest redesign in the nine-year history” of the device.

In this weekend’s Power On newsletter, Gurman said he expects the new iPad mini to feature an increased 8.4-inch display, with a design similar to the latest iPad Air, which has an all-screen look and a Touch ID sensor integrated into the power button.

Gurman’s report backs up an earlier leak from Jon Prosser, who claimed the new iPad mini would have an all-screen display, USB-C port, Touch ID power button, and more. Prosser suggested the device would be announced before the end of the year, with Apple set to offer the device in three colors, including black, silver, and gold, with 5G support.

Leaker Sonny Dickson shared alleged iPad mini dummy models in April, which may have offered our first look at the new design.
