2021 iPhones to be called ‘iPhone 13,’ with ‘mini,’ ‘Pro,’ and ‘Pro Max’ models
Apple will name this year’s new iPhone the “iPhone 13,” following the same naming convention as the current lineup with “mini,” “Pro,” and “Pro Max” variants, according to Korean site the Economic Daily News.
The report squashes earlier rumors that hinted that Apple may name the next iPhone the “iPhone 12S,” suggesting we will see a 6.1-inch “iPhone 13″/”iPhone 13 Pro,” 5.4-inch “iPhone 13 mini” and 6.7-inch “iPhone 13 Pro Max,” all of which are expected to be announced in September.
Rumors are pointing to Apple shrinking the size of the TrueDepth camera and sensor system, commonly referred to as the notch, for the very first time with this year’s iPhone iteration, supposedly relocating the ear speaker into the device’s top bezel, allowing for the overall width of the notch to be shortened for the first time.
A recent survey by SellCell showed that one out of five iPhone and iPad users would be put off by Apple announcing an “iPhone 13” due to the superstition that the number 13 is unlucky. Instead, 74% of people surveyed said they would would prefer a different name than iPhone 13 for the next-gen iPhones, with ‘iPhone (2021)’ voted the most suitable name at 38%.
