Leaker claims Apple has stopped production of FineWoven accessories
Apple has allegedly discontinued production of its troubled FineWoven accessories for iPhone, AirTag and Apple Watch. Reputable leaker “Kosutami” disclosed that all production lines have been halted and dismantled. Apple is reportedly shifting focus towards developing a sturdier non-leather material for future accessories.
In a post on X, the leaker said “FineWoven has gone. Since its durability were bad. All the production line was stopped and removed.” The post follows after Apple has faced heavy criticism following the launch of the FineWoven series, with many reporting that the accessories easily damage, are susceptible to scratches and imprints from MagSafe accessories, and overall lack the premium feel of other Apple products.
A month after launching the accessories, Apple sent an internal memo to employees in response to customer complaints, and Apple Store locations largely started accepting returns for used FineWoven accessories for iPhone, AirTag and Apple Watch, even if the products were outside of their standard 14-day returns policy.
The new FineWoven iPhone cases replaced Apple’s line of genuine leather iPhone accessories, with the company pledging to stop using natural leather in its products and replace such accessories with its new FineWoven material, made from 68 per cent post-consumer recycled content, significantly reducing carbon emissions compared with leather.
However, in many cases, the accessories easily marked, faded, or started to peel within days of normal use, giving the new FineWoven a poor reputation over its Silicone counterpart.
Should Apple have indeed ceased production of FineWoven accessories, it may take some time for the existing stock inventory to visibly diminish.
