Apple sends internal memo following widespread complaints over new FineWoven iPhone cases
Apple’s new FineWoven cases for iPhone have faced heavy criticism following the launch of the iPhone 15 series, with many customers reporting that the new accessories easily damage, are susceptible to scratches and imprints from MagSafe accessories, and overall lack the premium feel of other Apple cases.
In response to the feedback, Apple has sent an internal memo to retail store employees in response to customer complaints and questions, with 9to5Mac reporting that the iPhone maker is advising staff to water down negative feedback by saying the accessories “may look different and show wear over time as the fibers get compressed with normal use,” although “some scratches may diminish over time.”
The new FineWoven iPhone cases replace Apple’s line of genuine leather iPhone accessories, with the company pledging to stop using natural leather in its products and replace such accessories with its new FineWoven material, made from 68 per cent post-consumer recycled content, significantly reducing carbon emissions compared with leather.
On social media, many customers who purchased the FineWoven iPhone cases are calling for Apple to scrap the new material altogether, saying the company should switch to an all-silicone lineup for future iPhone accessories.
