Alleged Apple iPhone hardware subscription still under development, report suggests
Bloomberg reported last year that Apple is allegedly working on a new hardware subscription service that could make device ownership similar to paying a monthly app subscription, although so far, nothing has been seen of the rumored new service.
However, according to a follow-up by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman on Sunday, work is still underway despite the silence from Apple and has been faced “engineering and technical setbacks that have led to slow progress and missed deadlines.”
In the original report last year, the new service was described as “Apple’s biggest push yet into automatically recurring sales,” allowing customers to subscribe to hardware, such as the iPhone and other products, for the first time, giving users the option to pay for products through a monthly subscription, similar to how digital services like Apple Music and Netflix charge for their customers.
