‘iPhone 13 Pro’ to feature ProMotion displays, claims report
Apple is said to be bringing ProMotion displays to the iPhone starting next year with the “iPhone 13 Pro,” according to a report from The Elec, which claims supplier LG Display is expanding its factories ahead of production of components for Apple’s 2021 and 2022 iPhone models.
ProMotion was reportedly considered for the iPhone 12 Pro, but was pulled over battery life concerns.
ProMotion is the display technology found in the iPad Pro. The rumored 120Hz screen on the next-generation iPhone 13 would improve scrolling and swiping on the device. Video content would be more accurate and offer smoother viewing of each frame.
iPhone 13 details are so far slim, but it was reported last week that Apple intends to make ‘significant’ improvements to the ultra-wide camera on next year’s models, including a widened aperture for boosted low-light performance that would offer enhancements when taking photos at night.

“LG Display will expand the production rate of its organic light emitting diode (OLED) panel factory lines dedicated to Apple”, claims The Elec. “LG Display is planning to put in low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LPTO) thin-film transistors (TFT) equipment that can add 25,000 substrates per month in monthly production rate into the lines by next year.”
“The LTPO equipment being placed in the factory lines will be for OLED panel supply to iPhone next year, while the ones after May will likely be for panels for iPhones of 2022.”
