Apple announces ‘Hi, Speed’ iPhone 12 event on October 13
Apple has announced it will host a special event on Tuesday, October 13, where the company is expected to unveil a raft of new products, including the iPhone 12, new AirPods Studio over-ear headphones, AirTag item trackers, an affordable “HomePod mini,” and more.
The event will be live-streamed on Apple.com from the Steve Jobs Theater at Apple Park from 10:00am in a similar style to last month’s “Times Flies” stream, which saw Apple announce the Apple Watch Series 6, new Apple Watch SE, iPad Air 4, and more.
This year’s iPhone update is expected to see four new models introduced: a 5.4-inch “iPhone 12 mini,” a 6.1-inch “iPhone 12,” a 6.1-inch “iPhone 12 Pro,” and a 6.7-inch “iPhone 12 Pro Max.” All four 2020 iPhone models are expected to support 5G cellular and a new square-edged design. – You can read more about what to expect from the iPhone 12 here.
The event will likely see the official launch of Apple’s long-rumored more affordable HomePod speaker, dubbed the “HomePod mini”, which will reportedly compete with the Amazon Echo and Google Home, expected to be priced from $129 upwards. Apple’s over-ear “AirPods Studio” headphones on the other hand are said to be priced at $349 and be a direct competitor to high-end noise-canceling over-ear headphones from the likes of Sony, with insiders claiming they may have interchangeable components, similar to the various bands available for the Apple Watch.
AirTags are expected to attach to valuables, such as wallets, backpacks, keys, and more, allowing users to track their belongings in the Find My app on iOS, iPadOS, and macOS. The trackers will reportedly be no bigger than a bottle top, with Apple set to offer a “keychain that has a little leather pouch on it that you can just slip your AirTag into,” which will be sold separately.
