Apple to remove word ‘iPhone’ from back of the 2019 models, according to so-called factory worker

An anonymous tipster claiming to be a Foxconn factory worker has suggested Apple will remove the word “iPhone” from the back of it’s next-generation 2019 models, in addition to backing up previous rumors that Apple’s new iPhone XR predecessor will be available in an all-new dark green color.

Shared to Chinese question-and-answer site Zhihu and discovered by Slashleaks, the so-called Foxconn employee notably claims Apple will ditch the familiar “iPhone” branding from the back of the new  devices. We haven’t heard any other rumors suggesting this will happen, but since we’ve seen reports claim Apple will release a device simply called “iPhone” (the next-generation iPhone XR) it is possible the company doesn’t want its premium iPhone devices, such as the forthcoming iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro/Pro Max being mistaken for another model by retaining the “iPhone” branding.

The alleged factory worker says at least one of the new iPhones will be available in an all-new dark green color. This lines up with previous claims from Japanese blog Mac Otakara who said Apple would drop Coral and Blue from its 2019 iPhone XR line-up in favour of two new colors: Green and Lavender.

Everything else shared within the online post are rumors we’ve seen previously, such as the prediction Apple will remove 3D Touch from the premium iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro, and that the new device will include support for the Lightning cable, not USB-C.
