New iPad mini gets 8.5-inch OLED display with nano-texture option

Apple’s new iPad mini introduces the biggest display upgrade the compact tablet has seen, moving to an 8.5-inch OLED panel while keeping the same overall footprint.
The Super Retina XDR display uses OLED technology for pixel-level lighting control, deeper blacks, and a 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio. Apple says peak brightness reaches up to 1,200 nits, more than twice that of the previous-generation iPad mini.
The larger screen is made possible by bezels that are 24 percent thinner, giving users more display space without making the device larger.
Apple is also offering a nano-texture display option on iPad mini for the first time. The finish is designed to reduce glare in bright environments, following its use on higher-end iPad and Mac displays.
The display can drop as low as 1 nit of brightness, which Apple says makes it better suited to dim environments such as reading in bed or using the device in a dark cockpit.
The display upgrade is one of the headline changes on the all-new iPad mini announced by Apple, which also adds the A20 Pro chip and IP67 water resistance.
Apple’s full specifications for the display are detailed in its iPad mini announcement.
