Apple responds to reports of iPhone Duo displays cracking along the hinge

Apple has responded to early reports of iPhone Duo inner displays cracking along the hinge, confirming that it is aware of an issue affecting a small number of devices.
In a statement provided to 9to5Mac, Apple said affected customers should contact AppleCare for a replacement if they experience problems with the foldable display.
The company said the issue is currently limited to a small number of iPhone Duo units. Apple has not detailed what is causing the failures or whether a particular production batch is affected.
The Apple Post reported last week that several early iPhone Duo owners had experienced cracks forming around the center fold, in some cases shortly after the device was first used. At the time, there was no evidence that the problem was widespread.
Apple’s response is the first public acknowledgment that at least some units are experiencing an inner-display fault. The company’s guidance means customers who see similar damage should contact AppleCare rather than continuing to use the affected device.
The issue is distinct from normal wear to the replaceable protective layer above the foldable display. Apple separately offers replacement of that upper cover layer for $19 with AppleCare+ in the United States.
iPhone Duo launched on October 23 as Apple’s first foldable iPhone, starting at $1,999 in the United States and £1,999 in the United Kingdom.
