iOS 27 adds a custom equalizer for compatible AirPods, allowing you to adjust bass, midrange and treble from your iPhone rather than relying entirely on Apple’s standard sound profile.
The AirPods EQ applies more broadly than the equalizer available inside the Music settings, which is designed around music playback. With the AirPods control, your chosen sound profile is associated with the headphones themselves.
Apple’s custom EQ requires a compatible AirPods model with the necessary hardware, so the option may not appear when older AirPods are connected.
How to change the AirPods EQ in iOS 27
- Connect your compatible AirPods to your iPhone.
- Open Settings.
- Tap the name of your AirPods near the top of Settings.
- Tap Audio & Routing.
- Select Equalizer.
- Choose Custom.
- Adjust the low, mid and high controls until the sound matches your preference.
If you want to undo your adjustments, return to the Equalizer screen and use the available reset or recommended setting to return to Apple’s standard tuning.
