Apple has announced that the Passwords app in iOS 27 will gain the ability to automatically change passwords when it identifies compromised login credentials.
The Passwords app was introduced in iOS 18, bringing together saved passwords, passkeys, Wi-Fi passwords, and verification codes into a dedicated app. The app also includes Security Recommendations, which alerts users when a password has appeared in a known data breach, has been reused across multiple accounts, or is considered weak.
With iOS 27, when the app detects a compromised password, it can automatically generate a strong replacement password, update the account where supported, and securely save the new credentials in the Passwords app. This removes the need for users to manually navigate account settings and change passwords themselves.
The new feature is designed to make responding to security breaches faster and more convenient, helping users secure affected accounts with minimal effort while keeping their credentials safely stored and synced across their Apple devices.
