App Store ecosystem generated record $1.4 trillion for developers in 2025, Apple says

Apple says the App Store ecosystem facilitated more than $1.4 trillion in developer billings and sales during 2025, marking a new record and highlighting the continued growth of the platform.
According to a new study conducted by Analysis Group, over 90 percent of that revenue was earned directly by developers without any commission being paid to Apple. The report also found that the App Store ecosystem has nearly tripled in size since 2019.
Apple CEO Tim Cook said the milestone reflects the success of developers around the world.
“Developers are the heartbeat of the App Store, and this year’s incredible milestone is a testament to their boundless creativity,” Cook said.
The majority of activity came from physical goods and services, which accounted for approximately $1.1 trillion in sales. Categories such as grocery delivery, retail, food ordering, and travel continued to see strong demand. Digital goods and services generated $149 billion, while in-app advertising contributed another $151 billion.
Apple says the App Store now reaches more than 850 million average weekly users across 175 countries and regions, helping developers connect with customers around the world.
Artificial intelligence was a major driver of growth during the year. Apple says more than 40 of the top 100 App Store apps now include consumer-facing AI features, and those apps experienced billing growth four times higher than other top-performing apps.
The company highlighted a growing number of apps using AI for personalized health recommendations, photo and video editing, productivity tools, and other everyday tasks.
Apple also pointed to its own AI efforts, including the Foundation Models framework and Apple Intelligence, which allow developers to build AI-powered features using Apple’s on-device large language models. The company says this approach offers privacy benefits while allowing some AI features to work offline.
The report comes just days before WWDC, where Apple is expected to unveil iOS 27 and a host of new developer tools. Previous reports have suggested the company will introduce new Apple Intelligence capabilities, expanded AI integrations, upgrades to Siri, and additional frameworks designed to help developers build smarter apps.
Apple says it continues to invest heavily in developers through its global network of Developer Centers, Developer Academies, and online resources, with a new Apple Developer Center set to open in Berlin later this year.
With AI expected to be one of the biggest themes of WWDC, Apple is likely to spend next week showing developers how they can take advantage of the company’s latest technologies and continue growing on the App Store.
