Future 24-inch iMac could get OLED display as Apple works with Samsung and LG

Apple is reportedly planning a significant display upgrade for a future 24-inch iMac, with new claims suggesting the company is exploring OLED technology for its all-in-one desktop.
According to a report from The Elec, Apple has entered early discussions with Samsung Display and LG Display to develop an OLED panel specifically for an upcoming iMac model.
The display under consideration is said to offer up to 600 nits of brightness with a pixel density of 218 pixels per inch. That would keep the same resolution as the current 24-inch iMac, while delivering a noticeable brightness increase over the existing 4.5K Retina display, which tops out at 500 nits.
A 600-nit OLED panel would match the brightness of Apple’s Studio Display, although that monitor continues to use LCD technology rather than OLED.
The current 24-inch iMac relies on an LCD display with LED backlighting. OLED screens are known for improved contrast, deeper blacks and better overall image quality, thanks to self-illuminating pixels.
The report suggests Apple aims to complete development of an OLED iMac display by 2027 or 2028.
