If a new report is to be believed, the Apple Watch Series 4 won’t support watchOS 11, which is expected to be released in September.
According to French site iPhoneSoft, Apple plans to end software support for the Apple Watch Series 4 beginning with watchOS 11, meaning that users of the wearable won’t be able to upgrade to watchOS 11 when it is released later this year.
The Apple Watch Series 4, released in 2017, brought several notable features and improvements over the Apple Watch Series 3. It boasted a larger display with reduced bezels, offering more space for watch faces and apps. Health features were a major focus, with the introduction of an ECG app for monitoring heart rhythms and detecting irregularities like atrial fibrillation.
Additionally, the Series 4 included fall detection capabilities to automatically call emergency services in case of a significant fall. Powered by the new S4 chip, it offered faster performance and improved efficiency. The Digital Crown was enhanced with haptic feedback for a more tactile interaction experience.
Despite sharing the same S4 system-on-chip (SoC) for processing power, the Apple Watch Series 5 is expected to support watchOS 11. Both the Series 4 and Series 5 were equipped with 16GB of internal storage. While Apple doesn’t officially disclose the RAM size in its Apple Watch models, it’s widely believed that both Series 4 and Series 5 had 1GB of RAM.
