Apple Maps no longer showing live traffic data in Israel and Gaza at request of military
Apple has removed live traffic data from Apple Maps in Israel and Gaza at the request of the Israel Defense Forces, as part of a move to avoid attacks in either country and to hide movement of troops.
As reported by 9to5Mac on Tuesday, Israeli blog GeekTime and The Hill have confirmed that Apple has pulled live traffic data from the Maps app in Israel and Gaza, with 9to5Google sharing that Google has taken similar action to remove data from Google Maps.
Israel and Gaza are at war after Palestinian militants launched one of the biggest attacks in years from the Gaza Strip, sending thousands of rockets into central and southern parts of the country as heavily armed gunmen crossed border fences into Israeli communities. Within hours, Israeli fighter jets began airstrikes on targets inside Gaza.
As reported by 9to5Google, Waze, one of Google’s mapping apps, now shows a pop-up reading “due to the security situation, other drivers, traffic jams, traffic reports, and other alerts will not be displayed.”
