Apple to produce 75 million new iPhone models in second half of 2019
Apple is gearing suppliers up to produce up to 75 million new iPhone models in the second half of this year, roughly the same amount of devices manufacturers made last year ahead of the launch of the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR.
According to a report from Bloomberg, the production figures are a sign Apple expects demand for the upcoming iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Max and iPhone 11R to be stable following mixed demand for the current line of iPhone hardware.
Jeff Pu at GF Securities estimates that shipments of newly released iPhones will rise to 75 million in the second half, up about 7% from his estimate of 69 million last year.
This year’s volumes may signal stabilization after a year of uncertainty, though that’s a far cry from the double-digit growth numbers of years past. – Jef Pu
Although suppliers are believed to be tasked with producing 75 million units, it doesn’t mean Apple will sell that many before the end of the year. Judging by previous years, Apple will most likely place the 75 million units as an initial order, then make following orders based on how stable demand is for the new hardware.
