Tim Cook says “You will see us do more in the pro area”, comments directed towards the lack of new high-end Apple hardware
During a Q&A at Apple’s shareholder meeting today, Tim Cook reassured sceptical investors that Apple is still very much focused on its professional customers, adding that the company has plans to “do more” in the pro area.
Following comments from shareholders that were directed towards the Mac, Apple Watch, services, and iPad, Tim Cook said “Don’t think something we’ve done or something that we’re doing that isn’t visible yet is a signal that our priorities are elsewhere.” – Apple’s highest “Pro” product is the Mac Pro, a product which has not been updated since December of 2013, with the iconic iMac last seeing an upgrade in October 2015.
While currently we haven’t heard any reports Apple is preparing an updated Mac mini or Mac Pro, it is believed the company shall reveal new iMac hardware in 2017, even as early as WWDC in June, which are expected to be updated with USB-C ports and AMD graphics chips.
“You will see us do more in the pro area.” – “The pro area is very important to us.” – “Don’t think something we’ve done or something that we’re doing that isn’t visible yet is a signal that our priorities are elsewhere.”
During the question and answer session with Tim Cook, it was said that their wireless earphones, AirPods, are ‘quite the cultural phenomenon.’, also answering an investor’s question about the safety and health risks of wearing AirPods by saying they wouldn’t be on Apple’s website if there were any issues.
Finally, Cook announced that Apple has 491 retail locations across 18 countries and that the company’s energy usage currently comes from 93% renewable resources. He added that Apple is currently working to improve diversity across both the company and its suppliers.
