Tim Cook, Bill Gates and others are said to be joining the newly formed White House Office of American Innovation
According to the Washington Post, Apple CEO Tim Cook, Microsoft founder Bill Gates, Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff and Tesla founder and CEO Elon Musk shall be part of a new team founded by President Trump called The White House Office of American Innovation which will “harvest ideas from the business world” designed to “infuse fresh thinking into Washington”.
Led by Donald Trump’s son-in-law, The White House Office of American Innovation is described as a “SWAT team of strategic consultants” which will be staffed by former business executives. It’s unclear what role Tim Cook will take in the new team however, so have speculated that Tim could be used to help reduce costs for the Department of Education by providing cut price Apple products for the class room.
Tim Cook and Donald Trump have not always seen eye to eye, Tim blasted Donald’s first wave of immigration policies telling staff in a company wide email that “Apple would not exist without immigration”, quoting Dr. Martin Luther King“In the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, ‘We may have all come on different ships, but we are in the same boat now.’”
“The innovation office has a particular focus on technology and data, and it is working with such titans as Apple chief executive Tim Cook, Microsoft founder Bill Gates, Salesforce chief executive Marc Benioff and Tesla founder and chief executive Elon Musk. The group has already hosted sessions with more than 100 such leaders and government officials.”
