Donald Trump announces Apple will build three manufacturing facilities in the United States
According to US President Donald Trump, Tim Cook has allegedly promised that Apple will build “three big, big, big plants” for manufacturing in the United States, likely in partnership with Foxconn as revealed in an interview with The Wall Street Journal.
While Apple refused to comment on Donald Trump’s announcement, Tim Cook has previously said his long term vision is for Apple products to be assembled in the United States however doing so presents a number of issues, both financial and logistical.
Although speculation points to Foxconn officially announcing plans for US based production facilities as early as next week, it’s unclear what Apple products would be assembled on Apple’s home soil and how many jobs the new plants would create.
Most recently, supplier Wistron Corp started manufacturing select iPhone models within their new Bangalore production facility, with partners Foxconn and Pegatron said to be looking to expand their manufacturing presence in India too.
