Apple boosting iPhone XR production with high demand anticipated
Ahead of the release of the iPhone XR scheduled for the end of October, Apple is reportedly boosting production of the new 6.1-inch LCD iPhone model according to Digitimes as the company anticipates a higher than originally expected demand for the device once it goes on-sale.
According to the report, Apple is aiming to produce 20 million new “affordable” iPhone XR models during the month of October, with sources from Apple’s supply chain claiming the iPhone XR will account for more than 50% of Apple’s iPhone production in December 2018.
iPhone XR is expected to be a must-have product this holiday shopping season. Starting at $749, compared to the entry-level iPhone XS at $999, analysts have long expected the lower-price iPhone model to dominate iPhone shipments, even before Apple officially announced the device last week.
The shipment momentum for the iPhone XR is expected to continue into early 2019 as the ratio of iPhone XR orders to Apple’s total orders of new iPhone devices for December has been revised upward to over 50% recently, said the sources from the Apple supply chain.
