New iPad mini adds Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, Thread, and Apple’s C2 modem

Apple’s new iPad mini gets a major connectivity upgrade with the company’s N1 wireless chip and C2 cellular modem.
N1 brings support for Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread, while Apple says it also improves performance on 5GHz Wi-Fi networks and makes features such as AirDrop and AirPlay more reliable.
Cellular versions of the new iPad mini use Apple’s C2 modem system, which the company says can deliver cellular data speeds up to 50 percent faster than the previous generation while improving power efficiency.
Apple says iPadOS 27 also makes switching between cellular and Wi-Fi networks more seamless, including during FaceTime calls while a user is moving between connections.
eSIM remains supported for quickly adding and transferring cellular plans digitally.
The connectivity changes join the OLED display and A20 Pro chip in the new iPad mini.
Apple outlined the N1 and C2 upgrades in its official announcement.
