Should I update my iPhone 11 to iOS 27?

iPhone 11 users have a particularly interesting decision to make with iOS 27. Apple’s 2019 iPhone is compatible with the new update, extending its software support into a seventh major iOS generation.
For most iPhone 11 owners, there is no immediate reason to avoid iOS 27 permanently. The update provides Apple’s latest security improvements and system features, and continued software support is one of the strongest reasons to keep an older iPhone in use.
That does not mean every new iOS 27 feature will be available. The iPhone 11 lacks the hardware required for Apple Intelligence and the new generation of Siri AI, so some of the update’s headline features are reserved for newer iPhones.
There are still plenty of broader iOS 27 improvements available across supported devices. Our iOS 27 compatibility guide explains which iPhones can install the update and where Apple Intelligence support begins.
Performance and battery life are likely to be the biggest concerns for iPhone 11 owners. A major update can temporarily cause heavier battery use and reduced responsiveness while iOS completes indexing and other background processes after installation.
Battery health matters too. An iPhone 11 still using an older battery may behave differently from one with a recently replaced battery, making it difficult to judge iOS 27 performance based on another person’s experience alone. We’ve explained why battery life can temporarily be worse after installing iOS 27.
If your iPhone 11 is essential for work or travel and you would rather avoid any early-release issues, waiting several days for wider feedback is reasonable. Users comfortable with major iOS releases can install iOS 27 once it becomes available.
Apple releases iOS 27 today, September 14, with availability expected from around 10 a.m. PT (6 p.m. in the U.K.).
