Apple has released the iOS 27 Release Candidate to developers and public beta testers, bringing the software a major step closer to its public launch.
The Release Candidate, commonly referred to as the RC, is intended to be the version of iOS 27 that Apple ultimately releases to everyone, provided no significant last-minute problems are discovered during final testing. Apple can issue a revised RC if necessary before the public rollout.
The update arrives following months of testing that began after iOS 27 was unveiled at WWDC in June.
The Apple Post has been following iOS 27 throughout its beta cycle, including the features and changes coming to compatible iPhone models.
Apple followed a similar schedule last year. The company issued the iOS 26 Release Candidate on the day of its September iPhone event, before making iOS 26 available publicly the following week.
The iOS 27 RC can be installed by eligible developers through Software Update on an enrolled iPhone. Public beta testers should also receive access through Apple’s Beta Software Program.
For most users, however, there is little reason to install the RC rather than wait for the general release. Unless Apple discovers an issue serious enough to require another build, the public version is expected to be effectively identical to today’s Release Candidate.
Apple lists its latest developer software releases on the Apple Developer website, where build information and release notes are made available as updates are seeded.
