Apple’s second-generation iPhone Air could arrive in spring 2027 with one of the biggest omissions from the original model addressed: a second rear camera.
The iPhone Air 2 is reportedly part of Apple’s next wave of iPhone launches, with the device potentially arriving alongside the standard iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e, as reported by Bloomberg.
Apple is said to be exploring the addition of a second camera to make the ultra-thin iPhone more appealing. The original iPhone Air uses a single rear camera, a compromise that helped Apple achieve its extremely thin design but left it with fewer photography options than other premium iPhones.
Recent rumors have pointed to a second-generation model using two rear cameras, potentially pairing a 48-megapixel Main camera with a 48-megapixel Ultra Wide camera.
The Apple Post recently reported on alleged iPhone Air 2 packaging that appeared to show two cameras arranged horizontally inside an elongated camera enclosure.
The phone is also expected to retain the Air lineup’s focus on thinness while potentially bringing battery-life improvements. Apple could use the second generation to address some of the trade-offs that came with creating its thinnest iPhone form factor.
The timing would be notable too. Apple is expected to split its iPhone launch across two release windows, with the premium iPhone 18 Pro models and foldable iPhone taking the fall slot before more affordable models arrive in spring.
If that strategy goes ahead, the iPhone Air 2 could launch alongside the iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e in spring 2027 rather than appearing at Apple’s traditional September iPhone event.
