iPhone Air 2: Release date, two-camera rumor and everything we know

Apple’s second-generation iPhone Air could arrive in spring 2027 with changes aimed directly at the compromises of the original, including a second rear camera and potentially better battery life.

iPhone Air 2 is expected to launch alongside iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e as part of Apple’s new split iPhone schedule. Apple has not announced the device, and several of the precise specifications appearing in online graphics remain speculation.

The strongest rumors so far center on the camera system, processor and release window.

iPhone Air 2 release date

Multiple reports point to spring 2027, potentially around the same time as iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e.

The Apple Post previously reported on the spring window and Apple’s work on a second camera. This would move Air away from the fall launch occupied by iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Duo.

Two rear cameras

The addition of an Ultra Wide camera could be the biggest upgrade. The first iPhone Air’s single 48-megapixel camera helped enable its exceptionally thin design, but also left the premium-priced device without the versatility of other high-end iPhones.

Reports suggest Apple is testing a second-generation model with 48-megapixel Main and Ultra Wide cameras.

Alleged iPhone Air 2 packaging has appeared showing two cameras arranged horizontally. The packaging is unverified, so it should not be taken as confirmation of the final design.

A20 Pro and memory

iPhone Air 2 has been linked to the A20 Pro chip, which would distinguish it from the A20 expected in iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e. Claims of 12GB of RAM have also circulated, although that figure remains speculative.

Battery life

Battery life is another obvious area for Apple to improve. The original Air’s extremely thin enclosure constrained its battery capacity, and reports suggest efficiency improvements are a priority for the second generation.

Specific claims of a battery above 3,500mAh should be treated cautiously. Apple itself typically describes iPhone battery life in hours of use rather than advertising milliamp-hour capacity.

How thin will iPhone Air 2 be?

Rumors have suggested Apple will preserve the Air’s ultra-thin identity rather than substantially thickening the phone to accommodate its upgrades. Figures around 5.6mm have circulated, but there is not yet enough evidence to call that a final measurement.

Price

Speculation currently places iPhone Air 2 between $999 and $1,099 in the U.S. No reliable final pricing has been reported.

With a second camera and better battery life, Air 2 could address two of the clearest objections to the first-generation model. Whether Apple can make those changes without sacrificing the design that defines the Air is likely to be the bigger question heading into spring.
