Apple has announced a new “Extend” tool for the Photos app in iOS 27.
The feature allows users to expand images beyond their original boundaries using Apple Intelligence. It can be used to add space around subjects, adjust aspect ratios, or straighten horizons without cropping important parts of an image.
The tool generates the missing portions of an image while attempting to maintain the look and style of the original photograph.
Apple says the Clean Up feature in Photos is becoming more powerful in iOS 27.
The tool, which allows users to remove unwanted objects from photos, now produces more realistic results and can better handle complex scenes. Apple says improvements to its image models allow distractions to be removed with more natural-looking replacements.
The update is part of a wider set of Apple Intelligence enhancements coming to the Photos app.
