Apple names Johny Srouji as new Chief Hardware Officer

Apple has announced that Johny Srouji is becoming the company’s new chief hardware officer, effective immediately.
Srouji, who most recently served as Apple’s senior vice president of Hardware Technologies, will now take on a broader role overseeing both Hardware Engineering and Apple’s hardware technologies teams.
The move comes after Apple confirmed that John Ternus will become the company’s next CEO later this year, leaving his previous role overseeing Hardware Engineering vacant.
“Johny is one of the most talented people I have ever had the privilege to work with,” Tim Cook said. “He has played a singular role in driving Apple’s silicon strategy, and his influence has been felt deeply not just inside the company, but across the industry.”
Cook added that Srouji and his teams have repeatedly delivered “breakthrough innovations” that have transformed Apple products.
Incoming Apple CEO John Ternus also praised Srouji, calling him “an extraordinary chief hardware officer” and saying he looked forward to continuing to work closely with him.
Srouji has been one of Apple’s most important executives for years, playing a major role in the development of Apple Silicon and many of the technologies that power the iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and AirPods.
His teams have overseen custom chips, batteries, cameras, displays, sensors, storage controllers, cellular modems, and other core hardware technologies across Apple’s product lineup.
Srouji first joined Apple in 2008 to lead development of the A4 chip, the first Apple-designed system-on-a-chip, which debuted in the original iPad and later powered the iPhone 4.
Before joining Apple, Srouji held senior processor design roles at Intel and IBM.
As chief hardware officer, Srouji will now oversee one of Apple’s most important divisions, with responsibility for the teams that turn Apple’s ideas into finished products used by millions of people around the world.
