2025 iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Plus rumored to feature Always-On displays

Apple is rumored to be bringing Always-On displays, currently found exclusively on the iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Pro Max, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max, to the base-level iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Plus in 2025, according to a report citing sources within Apple’s supply chain.
According to The Elec, in addition to Always-On displays, the non-Pro iPhone 17 series could also feature support for ProMotion, allowing the display to increase to a 120Hz refresh rate for smoother scrolling and video content when required.
As per the report, BOE, a Chinese supplier, aims to provide Apple with LPTO panels for the iPhone 17 series. However, uncertainties persist regarding BOE’s ability to achieve the necessary production capacity while upholding Apple’s quality control benchmarks.
Should BOE fall short of meeting the specified requirements, Apple is expected to explore alternative suppliers such as Samsung and LG Display for the LPTO panels. Meanwhile, BOE may still play a role in supplying Apple with LPTS-based OLED panels for its existing iPhone models and the speculated fourth-generation iPhone SE.
