Tim Cook hints at new AI features in iOS 18 coming “later this year”

Apple CEO Tim Cook has hinted at iOS 18 featuring new AI features, saying that the company is investing a “tremendous” amount of time and effort in AI, with details to come later this year.
The announcement was made on Thursday as Apple reported its financial results for its fiscal 2024 first quarter, posting quarterly revenue of $119.6 billion, up 2 percent year over year. In a live call with investors Cook stated, “As we look ahead, we will continue to invest in these and other technologies that will shape the future. That includes artificial intelligence, where we continue to spend a tremendous amount of time and effort and we’re excited to share the details of our ongoing work in that space later this year.”
Earlier this week, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman said Apple is preparing “one of the biggest iOS updates — if not the biggest” in the form of iOS 18, which is set to be previewed at WWDC24 in summer ahead of a public release later this year.
Rumors suggest that iOS 18 will include generative AI features across a wide range of the default Apple apps, including Messages, Apple Music, Pages, Keynote, and Siri.
