Apple considering two new low-cost MacBook models for education
Apple is reportedly considering the launch of two new low-cost MacBook models designed for use in education, with a new rumors saying that Apple is looking to rival the Chromebook and other PC laptops that currently mostly dominate educational use.
The rumor follows after DigiTimes reported earlier this fall that a new educational-focused MacBook was being developed, with the report saying that the new low-cost machine will be a new addition to the existing MacBook lineup, and could have a new outer appearance made of “different materials” than those used on the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro.
As reported by AppleInsider, a post on South Korean blogging site Naver has claimed that a 12-inch and 13-inch MacBook is under development, although the report lacks further information.
While it’s conceivable that Apple is exploring strategies to appeal to a broader student demographic, this particular report marks the first instance where it explicitly asserts the development of an entirely new Mac model for this very purpose. Therefor, we suggest taking the report with a pinch of salt.
