Apple is said to be working on its first major upgrade to its iPad Pro lineup in several years, with all-new M3 models reportedly in development featuring new, larger OLED displays and an accompanying new Magic Keyboard, reports Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman.
Writing in his weekly Power On newsletter, Gurman says “iPad Pro is getting its first major overhaul in half a decade, and it can’t come soon enough. The iPad category — really the whole tablet market — is in a deep funk right now.”
“The next iPad Pro models — codenamed J717, J718, J720 and J721 — will shift to the next-generation M3 chip. They will also be Apple’s first tablets with OLED displays, the same types of screens used on the iPhone since the X model in 2017. They are crisper and brighter, and reproduce colors more accurately.”

The new models will come in 11-inch and 13-inch sizes, with the largest model increasing in size over the existing 12.9-inch version.
“Something else coming with the new iPad Pro, I’m told, is a revamped Magic Keyboard,” says Gurman. “The new accessory makes the iPad Pro look even more like a laptop than the current setup and adds a larger trackpad.”
OLED displays have long been rumored to be coming to the iPad. In general, OLED displays offer a better viewing experience over LED thanks to several advantages in display quality including a larger color range and high contrast levels, better handling of darkness and lighting precision, and fast response times.
It has been reported that Samsung Display is preparing to open an all-new production line for OLED iPad models.
