Elon Musk has officially renamed Twitter to “X” — replacing the platform’s familiar bird logo with an “interim X” that is superseding the original Twitter brand.
On Saturday, Musk said he plans to “bid adieu” to Twitter’s former identity and “gradually, all the birds” in a move that will see the platform loose the blue bird symbol that’s long been its signature.
The new X branding is being rolled out across the former Twitter website beginning today, with the official @Twitter account changing its name and profile picture to the new black and white X logo.

The change follows after Musk legally renamed Twitter Inc. to X Corp. in April, saying at the time Twitter would become an “everything app” called X.
The rebrand is the latest change made to the platform since Elon Musk’s turbulent takeover last year, which has seen loosened content moderation, controversial changes to its verification system, a focus on paywalling features such as TweetDeck, and the recent introduction of rate limits, which cap how many tweets users can read.
It’s an exceptionally rare thing – in life or in business – that you get a second chance to make another big impression. Twitter made one massive impression and changed the way we communicate. Now, X will go further, transforming the global town square.

Newly appointed X CEO Linda Yaccarino said on Sunday “Twitter made one massive impression and changed the way we communicate. Now, X will go further, transforming the global town square.”
As part of the change, x.com now points to twitter.com, with an app update likely in the final stages of development to introduce the new X branding.
Early this month, Musk said Twitter advertising revenue was down around 50 percent since his takeover last year, with the company not seeing the increase in advertising spend that had been expected in June.
As the new X identity begins to be introduced, #GoodbyeTwitter, #TwitterX and #TheX are now trending.
The change coincides with growing competition from Threads, a popular Twitter rival from Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, which has widely been described as a potential “Twitter killer,” launching at a time when users are revolting against the changes made to the platform.
Threads gained over 100 million users in less than a week after its launch.
