Elon Musk has said that Twitter will soon be renamed to “X” — a change that will see the platform’s familiar bird logo replaced with an “interim X logo” as the app adopts a new one-letter name.
The rebrand will be the latest change made to Twitter since Elon Musk’s turbulent takeover, which has seen loosened content moderation, controversial changes to its verification system, a focus on paywalling features such as TweetDeck, and the recent introduction of rate limits, which cap how many tweets users can read.
Taking to Twitter, Musk said on Saturday he plans to “bid adieu” to the Twitter brand and “gradually, all the birds”.

Musk has directed the x.com domain to forward to Twitter, saying a new “X” will be rolled out in the coming hours.
Twitter’s CEO Linda Yaccarino said: “Elon Musk and I are looking forward to working with teams and partners to bring X to the world.”
