New high-end ‘M1X’ Mac mini reportedly launching within months
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has reported in this week’s Power On newsletter that Apple could launch a new “M1X” Apple silicon Mac mini within months, suggesting the machine will feature a new design and more ports than the current model.
The newsletter notes Apple’s Intel-based Mac mini may only be around for the “next several months,” with the company waiting for a more powerful version of its first M1 chip before pulling Intel processors from the Mac mini line altogether.
Leaker Jon Prosser shared renders in May claiming to offer an early look at Apple’s rumored new Mac mini, reporting the machine will feature a “plexiglass-like” top and aluminium enclosure.
“The Mac mini is used for more basic tasks like video streaming, but many people use it as a software development machine, as a server or for their video editing needs,” says Gurman. “Apple knows that, so it kept the Intel model around. Well, expect that to go away in the next several months with a high-end, M1X Mac mini.”
Today’s edition of Gurman’s newsletter also suggests a new iPhone with in-screen Touch ID is being worked on, but the technology likely won’t be released this year with the upcoming iPhone 13.
