Apple testing in-screen Touch ID for future iPhone models, reports Gurman

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman is out with his weekly Power On newsletter, reporting this week that Apple has been testing in-screen Touch ID for the iPhone, but it won’t be coming with the iPhone 13 next month.
Touch ID has long been rumored to be making a return to the flagship iPhone lineup, with multiple reports from leading Apple analysts suggesting that work is well underway to launch a device with both Face ID and Touch ID in the near future.
“While Apple had tested in-screen Touch ID for the next flagship iPhones, it won’t make the cut this year,” says Gurman. “I believe Apple is all-in on Face ID for its higher-end iPhones and its long-term goal is to implement Face ID in the display itself.”
TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reported last month that under-display Touch ID is expected with next year’s “iPhone 14,” also reporting that the device will have an updated wide-lens camera with 48 megapixels.
