Apple expected to see strong ‘iPhone 13’ shipments, ‘iPhone 14’ to feature under-display Touch ID
TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has published a new note to investors forecasting strong shipments for this year’s new iPhone models, reporting that under-display Touch ID is expected for next year’s ‘iPhone 14’ and a new 5G iPhone SE is coming in early 2022.
According to Kuo, iPhone shipments are expected to reach 230–240mn and 250–260mn units in 2021 and 2022, respectively (vs. about 195mn in 2020), thanks to what he calls a “specifications upgrade” on this year’s models, boosted by the U.S. ban on Huawei.
Reports have suggested Apple will announce four new iPhone models in September, including upgrades to the iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max.
Rumors claim the iPhone 13 lineup will have a smaller TrueDepth camera and sensor system, which houses the technology that powers Face ID, an upgraded A-series processor, 120Hz ProMotion displays, and larger batteries.
Leaks have previously shown glass panels expected to be for the upcoming devices, showing the visibly smaller notch and a repositioned earpiece.
Kuo’s report claims in 2024, Apple will release an iPhone with under-display Touch ID and an updated wide-lens camera with 48 megapixels.
