iPad Pro once again rumored to get mini-LED displays this year
Apple has long been rumored to be bringing mini-LED displays to the iPad Pro, with a new paywalled report from Digitimes today reaffirming those long-standing rumors by suggesting that Taiwanese company Ennostar will begin production of the display units for an upcoming 12.9-inch iPad Pro during the first half of the year.
We’ve previously heard how Apple is looking to bring mini-LED panels, which offer the same quality as OLED but with power consumption, not just to the iPad Pro, but also to the Mac too. Today’s report doesn’t offer any new information compared to what we’ve had from the likes of Mac Otakara and Ming-Chi Kuo other than claiming that Ennostar will kick off production of mini-LED backlight units (BLU) at the end of first-quarter 2021 or in the second quarter.
The report only mentions the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, so at this point it looks like only the larger model will gain new new display technology to begin with.
Mini-LED displays are expected to be one of the main features of Apple’s next-generation 12.9-inch iPad Pro, with panel manufacturer LG Display supposedly already beginning mass production of the panels ahead of the launch of the first iPad Pro to adopt the new screen technology this year.
