Apple leaks upcoming high-end over-ear headphones in iOS 14 icons
Icons found within a version of iOS 14 obtained by 9to5Mac offer our first glimpse at Apple’s rumored high-end over-ear headphones.
The discovery follows after Target retail employees reported seeing “Apple AirPods (X Generation)” alongside other unreleased Apple products including new iPod touch, Apple TV and Apple Watch Bands showing on their in-store inventory systems.
The “X Generation” AirPods were rumored to be Apple’s high-end over-ear headphones given their $399.99 price tag in the system, compared to the current high-end AirPods Pro at $249.
The Apple Post has shared exclusive concept images that imagine Apple’s upcoming over-ear headphones. The headphones shown in the icons have a similar shape to our visuals, but the small images don’t giveaway much insight into what we can expect.
Naming for the headphones is unknown. Based in the discovery of both light and dark versions of the icons, the source speculates that the headphones will be available in both black and white.
Reports of Apple working on high-end over-ear headphones have been around for many years, with the most recent claim suggesting they would arrive sometime in 2020 following production issues in 2018.
