Apple allegedly working on new ‘AirPods Pro Lite’
Apple is working on new “AirPods Pro Lite”, according to a report from DigiTimes that claims Apple is working with suppliers in both Taiwan and China to ready a range of upcoming hardware, including new iPad, Apple Watch, and iMac models.
The report doesn’t share any details on the supposed “AirPods Pro Lite”, with one possibility being the report is referring to an updated version of the base level AirPods which were last updated in March alongside the release of an updated charging case.
If Apple were to release a “Lite” version of the premium AirPods Pro we don’t know where they would sit in Apple’s lineup, with only $50 separating the AirPods Pro from the wireless case version of the regular AirPods
Apple, maintaining partnerships with supply chains in both Taiwan and China, may have its Taiwanese partners handle more production of new-generation iPad, Apple Watch, AirPod Pro Lite and iMac devices to be released later, as the epidemic has raised risks of raw materials supply shortages and shipments disruptions arising from uncertain resumption of normal operations at components suppliers and assembly plants in China, the sources said.
DigiTimes has a mixed track record so we recommend taking their report with a pinch of salt.
Apple is said to be ‘aggressively’ boosting AirPods production with additional suppliers being added to help meed demand. Analysts have predicted the high-priced AirPods Pro are much more popular than Apple had originally anticipated.
