AirPods mysteriously marked as ‘Sold Out’, hinting new wireless charging case launching soon
Update: AirPods have now returned and are available again to purchase from Apple.com.
Ahead of a rumoured October media event, Apple has pulled AirPods from sale across Europe, hinting that the new, wireless charging case for AirPods which was previewed by Apple last September could be readying for an imminent launch.
Apple’s online store in the UK, France, Germany, Spain and many other European countries are all showing AirPods as ‘Sold Out’ and unavailable for in-store pickup; however, as of the time this article was published AirPods remain in-stock in the United States, and at third-party retailers worldwide.
Although the company is expected to be working on an upgraded version of AirPods which feature ‘Hey Siri’ integration and a longer battery life, from reports the new earphones aren’t due to arrive until 2019, meaning if the sudden unavailability is in-fact due to new hardware launching, its likely that it won’t be a full blown upgrade to the AirPods line.
Apple’s PR team haven’t commented on the mysterious AirPods availability when contacted, but it certainly is strange for the company to pull the product from sale completely from numerous countries at the same time.
