Apple closing flagship Covent Garden Apple Store in London for refurbishments

Apple will be closing its flagship Covent Garden Apple Store in London for refurbishments on June 27th, renovating the former “world’s largest” Apple Store which first opened to the public in July 2010.

The renovated location will most likely echo the design ascetic of Apple’s new “next generation” retail store design found at it’s central London Regent Street store, and multiple other locations across the world. Designed by Apple’s British-born Chief Design Officer Sir Jonathan Ive, the new Covent Garden Apple Store is expected to feature bright light boxes which extend the length of the ceiling, large in-door trees, sequoia wood tables and shelves along the walls and new seating for personal set-up and Genius Bar customers.

As with all of Apple’s global operations, including retail stores, offices, data centres, and more, Apple Covent Garden will run on 100% renewable energy.

Apple has also announced the temporary closure of its Wangfujing store in Beijing from June 24th. No official re-opening date has been set for either store, however; when Apple refurbished its central London Regent Street retail store the site was closed to the public for 10 months.
