How to be featured on Apple’s Instagram account
Last year Apple joined Instagram to share ‘Shot on iPhone’ images taken by iPhone users around the world, and ever since the company expanded onto the photo-sharing service used by over 500 million people, it’s been the dream of photographers and videographers to have their work featured on the official Apple Instagram account.
As you would imagine having your work featured on the Apple Instagram account isn’t something that happens to everyone, Apple is very selective about the content they share. The account is an extension of the Shot on iPhone campaign used by Apple for years to promote photography taken on iPhone devices, so any photographers looking to have their work featured must ensure the shots are “picture perfect”.
How to be featured on Apple’s Instagram account…
Within the profile of the Apple Instagram account the company notes users should “Tag #ShotoniPhone to take part”, with Apple’s marketing team most likely monitoring the hashtag and reviewing submissions for possible inclusion on the Apple profile. Although Apple advertises the #ShotoniPhone tag as a way to be included, a recent comment by Apple shows that a second method is in place for trending Instagram content.
As shown above, on a recent image taken by Instagram user @yanster3 at the Women’s March 2018 in New York, Apple reached out directly to ask permission to use an image upon their own @Apple Instagram account. Interestingly the original Instagram post did not include the #ShotoniPhone tag Apple searches for, suggesting the company proactively looks for content taken at major events without the #ShotoniPhone hashtag.
