Apple has added support for Apple Pay charity donations in the UK, launching with 21 nonprofit organisations
After initially launching in the United States in late 2016, Apple has today added support for Apple Pay charity donations in the UK, launching with 21 nonprofit organisations including Cancer Research UK, WaterAid, RSPCA and Unicef.
The service makes it easier for anybody using a compatible iPhone, iPad or MacBook Pro to make a charitable donation by using Touch ID to safely authenticate the payment identical to how payments for goods and services are made online through the payment service.
Over time the list of nonprofits who use the “Donate with Apple Pay” badge is expected to grow however, no further details have surfaced as to when this expansion shall take place. On Tuesday Apple Pay arrived in Ireland, with the contactless payment service enabled to Visa and MasterCard holders who bank with either Boon, Ulster Bank or KBC.
Apple’s mobile payment service, Apple Pay, is now in the U.S., UK, China, Australia, Canada, Switzerland, France, Hong Kong, Russia, Singapore, Japan, New Zealand, and Spain. The service can be used on the iPhone SE, 6, 6s, 6 Plus, 6s Plus, 7, 7 Plus, or an iPhone 5 or later when paired with the Apple Watch, and with the introduction of the latest MacBook Pro, users can make payments over the web with the machines built-in Touch ID sensor.
