Apple expands Apple Maps Transit Directions into Madrid
After most recently being added in the Netherlands and Adelaide, Australia last month, Apple is beginning expand Apple Maps Transit Directions into Madrid, with iOS and macOS users beginning to see local bus, train and metro travel data within the Maps app of their device.
Apple Maps has dramatically improved since it’s launch in 2012 alongside the launch of iOS 6 when Apple famously dropped Google Maps in favour of their own home-grown mapping system. – According to a new report from iGeneration, in a bid to make their mapping service more reliable Apple may soon begin to pay users to add information and improve Apple Maps through a new system similar to Mechanical Turk. It’s believed Apple’s new commission based service, the will likely be integrated into iCloud.com, will offer a small fee each time they correct/verify a Point-of-Interest or placemark in Apple Maps.
The service is still being rolled out across Madrid, with some users still being shown a “Transit information for Madrid is not available.” message however; through the day the service should reach all iOS and macOS users in the city.
