Almost 10 Apple devices to lose Apple repair support on June 30
In an internal memo from Apple, it appears the company will be adding 9 devices to the obsolete status list. Starting June 30, these devices will no longer be eligible for official Apple repair support. These devices include select AirPort Express, MacBook Air/Pro, and iPhone models.
The MacBook Air models moving to obsolete include the MacBook Air (11-inch, Mid 2011) and the MacBook Air (13-inch, mid 2011). In addition, late 2011 13-inch, 15-inch, and 17-inch MacBook Pro models and the 17-inch mid 2009 MacBook Pro will also become obsolete.
The obsolete peripherals alongside these MacBooks include the 1st generation 802.11n AirPort Express that launched back in 2008. The first generation Airport Express plugged directly into the wall-socket, rather than featuring the newer standalone box.
Rounding out the list is iPhone. The 16GB and 32GB iPhone 3GS will also add to obsolete list.
Typically 5-7 years after Apple discontinues manufacturing, the company begins transitioning those device to the obsolete status. After a device has been deemed obsolete, customers can no longer obtain official Apple repairs. In the memo Apple appears to made some of these devices “vintage” rather than obsolete in particular regions. In Turkey and California, Apple will provide limited support for two years after products become obsolete elsewhere.. You can see the full list that was obtained from 9to5Mac below
